Saturday 20th July | 14:00 – 15:00 | Rocquaine
We would like to invite our Juniors to join us for a joint event with Guernsey Conservation Volunteers (GCV) where we will be ‘Searching for the Plant Invaders’ by removing sour fig shoots (a non-native plant!) from Rocquaine.
GCV’s aim this year is to make Rocquaine “free of sour fig by the end of the year” and we’re looking forward to lending a helping hand! Come along and help us remove this invasive non-native plant which is damaging our island’s environment.
Sour fig is an invasive non-native plant has a negative impact on our native species. When the plant is removed a variety of native coastal plants will regrow from existing seeds in the ground, which in turn will then provide food and shelter for insects and small mammals. This increase in biodiversity is so important to our island and helping our natural world recover.
