Saturday 9th August | 14:00 – 15:00 | Rocquaine – **** CANCELLED***
We invite our Juniors to join us for an event with Guernsey Conservation Volunteers (GCV) where we will be on the ‘Search for the Plant Invaders’! This will involve removing sour fig shoots (an invasive, non-native plant!) from Rocquaine.
GCV successfully completed their goal of 2024 which was to make Rocquaine “free of sour fig”, and in 2025 they’re committed to keeping this the case! We’re looking forward to lending a helping hand, so please join us and help to remove this invasive non-native plant which is damaging our island’s environment.
Sour fig is an invasive non-native plant has a negative impact on our native species. When the plant is removed a variety of native coastal plants will regrow from existing seeds in the ground, which in turn will then provide food and shelter for insects and small mammals. This increase in biodiversity is so important to our island and helping our natural world recover. 🐝🌱🦋
