SUMMARY:Nature Gsy - World Wetlands Day Collaboration Event
DESCRIPTION:Nature Guernsey Collaboration Event for World Wetlands Day   \nSaturday 31st January | from 10:00 – 13:00\, Lihou Causeway \nJoin us to celebrate World Wetlands Day and explore the amazing Lihou Ramsar site! Nature Gsy have teamed up with local environmental charities for this event – come along and join us!  \n\nCelebrate some of the amazing wetlands of Guernsey at the Lihou Ramsar site\, learn why they’re so important for our planet\, and take part in efforts to look after them. This event is your chance to explore\, discover\, and have fun with fellow nature lovers. Don’t miss out on the fun and the chance to make a difference! \n\n\n\nWe will meet on the Guernsey side of the Lihou Island causeway at 10am\, with the event kicking off at 10.15am. Please bring warm waterproof clothing & wellies. \n\n \n_____ \n\nNature Guernsey events are free and open to all. Donations are much appreciated.  \n\n Why Wetlands Matter\n\n\nWetlands are some of the most important ecosystems on Earth\, and here’s why:\n\n\n Biodiversity Hotspots – They’re home to 40% of the world’s species\, from birds to fish and amphibians.\n\n\n Nature’s Water Filters – Wetlands remove pollutants\, ensuring cleaner water for all.\n\n\n Flood Protection – They absorb excess water\, reducing the impact of floods and storms.\n\n\n Climate Heroes – Wetlands store more carbon than forests\, helping to fight climate change.\n\n\n Essential for Life – Wetlands provide breeding grounds and food for countless species.\n\n————— \nNATURE GUERNSEY\, part of La Société\, was set up in 2018 to organise events aimed at families. \nAs well as engaging existing members\, Nature Guernsey aims to introduce the organisation to non-members who may not be aware of the environmental work of La Société or the benefits of joining.

SUMMARY:EVE TORODE PRESENTS ON HER MSC RESEARCH IN GUERNSEY
DESCRIPTION:In partial fulfilment of my MSc I set out to undertake the first ecological assessment of sea bed communities and food web dynamics in Guernsey waters. Using mono-Baited Remote Underwater Video systems (mono-BRUVs)\, I investigated how varying levels of fishing pressure affect community composition across sites with low\, moderate\, and high fishing intensity. The findings contribute to a foundational ecological baseline vital for sustainable fisheries management and marine conservation in the Channel Islands. \n  \n18th Nov Marine biology talk

SUMMARY:Nature Gsy - Bird Watching Day
DESCRIPTION:Nature Guernsey – Bird Watching Day Drop In 🐦\nSaturday 11th October | from 8:00am – 5:00pm\, La Claire Mare Nature Reserve \nJoin Nature Guernsey for a day of bird watching where we try to identify as many bird species as possible during the day. We’re hoping to spot at least 50 species throughout the day – come along and be a part of the fun!  \nLa Claire Mare is one the island’s premier reserves for bird and is comprised of wet grassland\, reedbeds and open water. Pop by to learn more about this site\, how it supports our local bird life and\, most importantly\, help us to identify the species we see!  \nOur Ornithology experts will be stationed at the reserve from 5am and on call throughout the day to help identify the birds we see. They will also be leading small walks across to the Shingle Bank.  \nBirdwatching provides huge amounts of data to conservation research and this event is an ideal opportunity to get outside\, enjoy some beautiful natural surroundings and give attention to these amazing flying creatures. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert\, everyone is welcome. 🐦 Bring along some binoculars if you have them\, or if not\, some will be provided.  \nNature Guernsey events are free and open to all. Donations are always welcome.  \nLocation: Please park in one the coastal carparks\, and walk along to the hide here. \n————— \nNATURE GUERNSEY\, part of La Société\, was set up in 2018 to organise events aimed at families. \nAs well as engaging existing members\, Nature Guernsey aims to introduce the organisation to non-members who may not be aware of the environmental work of La Société or the benefits of joining.
