Guernsey BioBlitz

May 14

The Guernsey BioBlitz takes place at L’Ancresse Common on 14 May 2019. The event is hosted by Biodiversity Partnership, Guernsey Biological Records Centre and La Société Guernesiaise.

A BioBlitz is an event which aims to record as many species as possible from a given area within a particular timescale. In this case, we will be looking to record as many species from our BioBlitz site in the 24hrs of Tuesday May 14th.

The public and local schools will be invited along to help hunt for bugs, birds, butterflies and bats and everything in between.

Biological recorders who are experts in everything from spring tails to long-tailed tits will be on hand to help the search and identify the wildlife we find.

All this information will then be sent to the Guernsey Biological records Centre to help us better understand Guernsey’s environment and how to conserve it.

The Biodiversity Partnership is a Non-profit organisation, which was established to scrutinize, advise and educate on Guernsey’s Biodiversity Strategy.

It is made up of representatives from local environmental charities, the States of Guernsey Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services (ACLMS) and the Biodiversity Education Officer.

Chris Packham who is in Guernsey at this time organised a UK BioBlitz in 2018.
